French Publishers Association Drops Lawsuit Against Google

The French Publishers’ Association and the author’s group, the Société des Gens de Lettres, have dropped lawsuits against Google’s book-scanning project.

According to a report in The New York Times, Google has agreed to work with these organizations to set up a way for publishers to sell digital versions of their works through Google Books.

Philippe Colombet, head of Google Books France, told The NY Times: “Our hope is that these path-breaking partnerships will help jump-start the emerging French electronic book market.”

Meanwhile in the United States, the Author’s Guild is still pursuing a book scanning lawsuit.
