Facebook has begun the rollout of a free calling button in its Messenger application for the iPhone to U.S. users, following a short test of voice messaging in Canada that began earlier this month.

Facebook has begun the rollout of a free calling button in its Messenger application for the iPhone to U.S. users, following a short test of voice messaging in Canada that began earlier this month.

The Verge reported that Facebook confirmed the rollout, saying that iPhone users do not have to update their apps, and describing the process as follows:

  • Begin a Messenger conversation with the user who will be the recipient of the call.
  • Tap the “i” button in the top-right-hand corner.
