As if to add insult to injury, Fredric U. Dicker, the reporter who has doggedly pursued the Governor on the TrooperGate scandal — for which he has been criticized — broke the story on the NYPost website at 8:38 a.m that Governor Eliot Spitzer will resign. New York Post State Editor Fredric U. Dicker sounded victorious today as he appeared on the Imus in the Morning program. From his NYPost scoop:
”Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to resign and is notifying top state officials of his decision, The Post has learned.
”Word began circulating of his decision in state political circles earlier this morning. The decision came after what one source called ‘an agonizing night,’ as the governor’s wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, and the governor’s lawyers went over a possible plea deal offered by federal prosecutors, sources told The Post.”
Dicker told Imus at around 9:30 that ”multiple sources” had confirmed the report. Dicker, sounding particularly chipper, offered an unofficial liase with the Governor-elect, informing Imus that David Patterson, who is legally blind, is a big fan of talk radio and, particularly, of the Imus program.
