Fox 5 DC Adds New Elections-Focused Evening Newscast

It premieres July 18.

Starting July 18, Fox 5 DC will be adding an extra half-hour newscast to its lineup.

Called 5 @ 6:30, the newscast will focus mainly on 2016 elections coverage, but will also cover timely local stories. Shawn Yancy and Jim Lokay will host, with political reporters Tom Fitzgerald and Ronica Cleary contributing. It will air Monday-Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET, which is easy to remember given its name.

“This election is unlike any we have ever seen. It deserves unconventional and original political reporting,” said station vp and news director Paul McGonagle in a statement explaining the impetus for the show.

The program is currently slated to run through the end of elections season. Its debut next month will give Fox 5 DC a solid two-hour evening news block that begins at 5:00 p.m. ET.
