Former <em>TWT</em> Editor Named in Domestic Violence Case; He Responds

The D.C. Superior Court case document is dated June 2, 2010. The petitioner: Italia Federici The respondent: Richard Miniter The motion: Civil Protection Order FishbowlDC has obtained a signed court document that shows that Federici, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion and obstructing the U.S. Senate investigation into the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and was sentenced to four years probation, has filed a civil protection order in D.C. Superior Court against Miniter, a former NYT bestselling author and editorial page editor for The Washington Times. A judge signed the order. Miniter must stay at least 100 feet away from Federici, her home, and her workplace. Federici is the former president of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy. She was also an aide to former Sec. of the Interior Gale Norton. Miniter denies any wrongdoing. In a message to FishbowlDC, he said: "That charge is false. It's being put forward by an Abramoff convicted felon...and when this D.C. superior court thing has moved on there will be additional charges pressed against her for extorting money from myself and other people. ...This is a pattern of behavior from her. I made a mistake. I was being nice to someone by letting them stay. I've let other people stay in my place when they were in town for a week or two. She really took advantage of the situation and is trying to extort money from my brother, my friends and myself." > Update: Larry Klayman is no longer Miniter's attorney in the TWT case. His new attorney is John Shoreman. He said his attorney in the Federici case is Pat Woodward, a former federal prosecutor in D.C.. The document reads as follows: "On February 12, 2010, the respondent in this case viciously attacked and beat the petitioner because he thought she was taking the news of their relationship ending much too casually. The respondent beat the petitioner so severely that she has been diagnosed with transitional vision lost (sic) and he caused her to have trauma to her right eardrum. The respondent may have killed the petitioner had his brother not been there and came (sic) to pull the respondent off the petitioner. The petitioner has not asked for the TPO before now because she left the area on February 19, 2010 and did not return to the DC area until April 2, 2010 to file this case. The petitioner then left again on April 3, 2010 and did not return to the area until April 28 for the hearing today and she will be here through the month of May. The respondent has guns in his possession all the time and although he may not own his own he can very easily have access to one. The petitioner had to be convinced by friends to notify authorities about this horrifying act because she was afraid of retribution by the respondent. For all of the above reasons the petitioner is requesting this Court grant her a Temporary Protection order." In the document, Miniter is listed as a blue-eyed, blond-haired 284-pound African American. Sources (Google Images and those who know him) confirm that he is actually Caucasian. Miniter spent about six months at TWT before being fired earlier this year rather abruptly. He then filed suit against TWT for religious and age discrimination. The case, so far, has not gone anywhere. Miniter is represented in the TWT suit by Larry Klayman, founder of Judicial Watch and former Bill Clinton nemesis who at one point sued his own mother. Klayman is no longer with Judicial Watch.
