Five Cut At CPI
The Center for Public Integrity has closed ten positions and laid off five employees to close a $2.5 million budget gap, reports MediaWire.
Sandy Johnson and Keith Epstein, both managing editors and award-winning journalists, were among the five let go.
The CPI has 30+ journalists remaining on staff; it lost another nine in 2007.
CPI director Bill Buzenberg and his staff have all taken pay cuts, MediaWire reports, but the organization has also hired five new people since September who all make six-figure salaries: former NPR chief Ellen Weiss; Christine Montgomery, the chief digital officer; managing editor for national security R.
