(a sprinkling of things we thought you ought to know…)
Matt Drudge was up too late—that’s the only thing that can explain this bizarre midnight tweet: “Watching Weiner and Huma Clinton this evening and thinking of Andrew Breitbart…” How many things can you count wrong with that statement? Everyone else must have been as confused as we were, because it got an uncharacteristically low number of replies—just three. And one of those was along the lines of you’re so awesome, how did you come up with the idea for such a great news site? (Yeah, even Drudge gets Marty’D.)
No talking points on MSNBC—”No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Jay! Is that the truth or not, Jay? Is that the truth or not? You said this was limited to Cincinnati … Don’t give me talking points, because that doesn’t work on this show, and you’ve been here long enough to know, that doesn’t work on this show!” shouted MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, in a segment this morning rehashing Republican talking points about the IRS scandal. They appeared to end on a nice note after an angry few minutes.
New York Post is off its game—There is great sorrow in New York today, but it’s not only because they’ve put a serial sexter at the top of the pile of candidates for mayor, but because the New York Post, having been handed Anthony Weiner on a silver platter yesterday, seems to have just phoned it in with today’s cover. It’s a picture from Weiner’s press conference with wife Huma (Huma Clinton, apparently—according to Drudge) that simply says: “Meet Carlos Danger.” That’s all you got New York Post? Talk about a let down. The disappointment is almost palpable. For example, Mediaite tweeted this morning, “‘New York Post Fails To Achieve Weiner Joke, Disappoints Entire Internet.” If it’s any consolation, the Metro edition went with “Too Hard To Quit.” Better, but not great. Mediaite has a roundup of previous NYP covers on Weiner that, thankfully, went the extra weiner.
