First Look Media (Sort of) Wins an Oscar

Time to focus on the good things.

First Look Media — the company from eBay founder Pierre Omidyar — has won an Oscar. Kind of. Citzenfour, a film based largely on the Edward Snowden reporting from The Intercept (the news site under First Look), won the Oscar.

The film’s director and Intercept co-founder Laura Poitras accepted the award for Best Documentary Feature. Joining Poitras on stage was another Intercept co-founder, Glenn Greenwald.

Since it launched, First Look and The Intercept have been mostly known for attracting — and subsequently repelling — talented people like John Cook, Matt Taibbi and more recently, Ken Silverstein.
