The Financial Times has acquired app development company Assanka, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed.
In a memo sent to employees, FT CEO John Ridding wrote: “This acquisition supports our strategy to deliver our world class journalism anywhere, anytime on any device, delivering new digital products and services that engage our busy readers.”
The follows the company’s push into the digital realm. Despite pulling its iOS content apps due to Apple’s subscription rules, the company continues to explore digital options. In November, The Financial Times launched a web app for iPad in Indie and in December the media company launched the beta version of its Android app.
paidContent.org has more: “Assanka launched the HTML5 web app with the paper’s in-house product team in June 2011, declaring ‘the craze for native apps is a short one and we are already seeing it on the wane.'”
