Social recommendation engine StumbleUpon stumbled upon the word of widgets, announcing the release of embeddable tools for content providers to install, in three different sizes.
The widgets — available in 160×600 (pixels), 600×250, and 300×250 — direct readers to content that scores highest on the StumbleUpon index, tailored to their browsing interests, and they allow content publishers to make use of unsold ad inventory.
More from StumbleUpon “senior software widgetizer” Stefan DeClercq, in a post on the StumbleUpon Blog:
Have you ever thought to yourself, “Man, I’ve got some pretty awesome taste in stuff?” While your friends today can follow your favorites on StumbleUpon, we think you should be able to share your favorite sites on a broader scale. For all blog owners and original content creators, today we are releasing our Widget Creator.
By using the Widget Creator, you can insert one line of code into your blog or website that includes either your favorites or sites that are rated the highest within an interest and/or domain. You can choose from three different sizes — squareish (300×250), wide rectangle (600×250), and tall rectangle (160×600).
Coupled with badges and su.pr, StumbleUpon Widgets let you engage your audience and grow your content to connect your readers and friends with the most appropriate sites across the Internet. We are excited to launch this today and look forward to your feedback.
