The New York Times is looking to cut back on the freebies, testing lower limits to the number of posts that can be read subscription-free by Facebook and Twitter users.

Eileen Murphy, the newspaper’s head of communications, told Peter Kafka of Re/code that the Times began experimenting with slashing the number of free articles some Facebook users could access from 20 to 10 two months ago, adding that the test was expanded to Twitter and other social networks last week.
