Fashion Week: Barbara on Rosie: “She Doesn’t Want to Drive the Bus.”

Longtime Oscar de la Renta friend and client Barbara Walters took her place among the Park Avenue swells at Oscar de la Renta’s standing room only show on Monday. Looking resplendent in one of de la Renta’s signature plaid pantsuits (“I wore it on the air this morning!”), Walters was all smiles when asked about the mood on the new View. “We’re having such a good time,” she said “Our ratings are up. The emails we’ve been getting have been wonderful. It has been such a smooth transition because, of course, Rosie [O’Donnell] is used to doing a show. I think it’s fun for her to be with the group. As she always says, she doesn’t want to drive the bus, she wants to ride it. We’re all very happy.” Walters also has a message for those looking to fill Star Jones‘ Payless pumps: don’t hold your breath. “I think we want to settle down first then we’ll talk to some people — not necessarily a new candidate. We don’t feel the need yet but there will probably come a point where we will.” Does this mean Shannen Doherty, who was one of the countless hopefuls who filled in after Jones was shown the door, might still have a shot? It’s highly unlikely — unless, of course, Walters and producer Bill Geddie want to turn the chatfest into a Pay-Per-View celebrity death match. Watch out, Elisabeth Hasselbeck!
