Fandango, the movie ticket company owned by Comcast since 2007, announced on Monday that it bought Movies.com from Disney, CNET’s The Social blog reports.
Executives said in a statement that the aim of the acquisition is to provide a one-stop movie hub for the Web, which will now include Movie.com’s reviews and breaking news, in addition to Fandango’s ticket sales to more than 15,000 theaters.
“We are pleased to expand our rich-entertainment reach through this strategic addition of Movies.com,” Chuck Davis, CEO of Fandango, said in the report.”We’ll be able to leverage our combined assets to offer millions of new moviegoers the best movie-related information available on the Web.”
Fandango has had a mobile portal for several years now, located at mobile.fandango.com. No word yet on whether or not the movie reviews and news will be available from the mobile portal, but we don’t see why not.
