Among those who received a fake mini-edition of The New York Times handed out today in Times Square was Reuters reporter Charles Levinson. Thanks to the journalist’s Twitter feed, there is documentation of one of the mock leaflet’s cleverest elements.

It looks like an ad, but the copy below delivers anything but a branded punchline: ‘Since 2008, the Israeli Defense Forces (I.D.F.) have routinely sprayed toxic “skunk water” on and into Palestinian homes and schools. Its smell has been described as “worse than raw sewage” and “like a mixture of excrement, noxious gas and a decomposing donkey.’
Although the handout masquerading as a Feb. 2 2016 edition of the Gray Lady is clearly an anti-Israel screed, it’s unclear at press time who is specifically responsible for this protest stunt. U.K.’s The Independent has a statement of response from the Times.
