We know that fashion designers aren’t known for being the toughest apples in the bushel, but this week was particularly tough on them. First was the incident this Tuesday morning wherein, following a fundraiser at the Met, actor Kiefer Sutherland reportedly head-butted designer Jack McCollough in order to defend the honor of Brooke Shields…or something (Shields denies this is the way things panned out and we’re more inclined to believe her). The second is less bizarre and more sad. That same day, Tuesday, famous designer and dapper gentleman Pierre Cardin suffered some kind of temporary ailment that caused him to faint and then fall down, the second time this has happened in as many weeks. It appears that he’s fine and we wish him the best, but we think both incidents are a call to arms for fashion designers everywhere. Like in one of those Charles Atlas ads, maybe it’s high time to fight off the head-butts and the fainting spells, fashion designers! Eat your vegetables, hit the gym, muscle up! Stop letting the Kiefer Sutherlands of this world pick on you! Alternately, we suppose you could also stop restoring the Marquis de Sade’s castle for once and just take it easy for a couple of days, while also avoid being anywhere Brooke Shields is. Those solutions would probably work, too.
