Factory Workers in China Encouraged to Nap on the Job

man asleep at deskYes, you read that right.

According to NBC News, one factory in southern China doesn’t exactly cringe when they catch workers snoozing. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Workers at the computer hardware factory are actually encouraged (yes, encouraged) to leverage two to 10-minute breaks to catch some shut-eye.

Think of it this way — if you’re going to take a break, you might as well make it productive to get an extra boost you need.

A photographer for a local magazine who previously worked in Chinese factories for 17 years revealed in the piece: “Many of the workers eat lunch so fast, they can get an extra 20 minutes sleep out of their hour lunch break.”

We’ve never worked in a factory but imagine it can be quite grueling. Per the source, it’s not uncommon for workers to volunteer to work longer hours to boost their wallets.
