Facebook Tests Comment Ordering For Page Admins

Facebook appears to be testing a feature for page administrators to order comments based on the posters’ popularity, in addition to chronological ordering.

We received the screenshot below from Jesse Ferrell, community director at Accuweather; clicking on the number of comments in the upper left-hand corner of the screen conjures a pull-down menu for ordering comments based on chronology or popularity.

The most intriguing thing about it is the wording “social ranking” to refer to ordering posts based on the commenters’ popularity.

We’re not entirely sure “social ranking” means the number of friends the poster has or the number of likes and responses generated by the post.

We’ve asked Facebook whether this is in fact a test — or, say, a third-party plugin — and will update this post with whatever we learn.

If in fact this is a bug or a plug-in, it seems like an odd choice for a third party to program.

Readers, have you noticed any new options for organizing comments on pages — either like what we see below or something else that appears different?
