Facebook Is Testing Rewards QR Codes in Its Mobile Apps

Users who are part of the test group will see the Rewards option under the More tab in their apps

Facebook has been testing a Rewards feature in its flagship mobile application, which enables users to scan personalized QR codes while shopping in stores to redeem discounts or bonuses.

The social network confirmed its test of the Rewards feature to Josh Constine of TechCrunch, saying:

To help businesses continue to connect with customers where they are, we’re running a small test that enables people to use the Facebook app to collect and redeem Rewards when they make a purchase at a participating store.

Users who are part of the test group will see the Rewards option under the More tab in their apps.

A similar feature, Facebook Offers, has been available since 2012, both online and offline, and Constine speculated that loyalty programs could be one way for retailers to use Rewards, should Facebook opt to launch the feature.
