Social commerce software provider ShopIgniter is bringing shopping directly into the Facebook news feed.
ShopIgniter introduced what it calls “in-stream technology,” saying it allows merchants to promote products and services, offer deals, complete secure transactions (two-sided SSL encryption), and manage inventory, all within the news feed on Facebook.
The company added that vendors can launch products onto the news feed with three clicks and display information such as quantity remaining and alternative choices in the event that items sell out.
Retailers can also take advantage of geo-targeting functionality, meaning, to use the example offered by ShopIgniter, if Florida is about to be hit by a storm, consumers in the affected region will receive offers for items such as umbrellas.
The new in-stream functionality from ShopIgniter can be implemented as a stand-alone offering, or integrated with an existing storefront on Facebook, enabling marketing managers to tie in elements such as loyalty programs and rewards.
From the consumer side, they must click “allow” to take advantage of the new in-stream features, and vendors will gain access to their email addresses, social graph, influencer data, and transactional data, enabling them to indentify and reward their best customers.
