Facebook was the top tech company on the 50 best places to work for 2012 list from Glassdoor, but it slipped from first to third on the overall list.
Employees used a five-point scale with five as the top score, and Facebook posted a 4.3, followed in the tech sector by:
- Mitre, 4.1
- Google, 4.0
- Apple, 3.9
- Rackspace, 3.9
Bain & Company took the 2012 title, followed by McKinsey & Company, Facebook, and Mitre. Other highlights of this year’s 50 best places to work for list are:
- Rackspace jumped to a 3.9 from a 3.1, while Samsung Austin Semiconductor climbed to a 2.5 from a 1.9, NVIDIA to a 3.5 from a 3.0, and Hewlett-Packard to a 2.7 from a 2.2.
- The top five tech chief executive officers were National Instruments’ James Truchard (100 percent approval rating), NetApp’s Tom Georgens (100 percent), Apple’s Tim Cook (96 percent), Synopsys’ Aart de Geus (96 percent), and Intel’s Paul Otellini (93 percent).
- The most improved tech CEOs were eBay’s John Donahoe (to 65 percent from 30 percent), Sapient’s Alan Herrick (to 85 percent from 58 percent), Analog Devices’ Jerry Fishman (to 80 percent from 55 percent), and Intuit’s Brad Smith (to 84 percent from 60 percent).
- On the flip side, the CEOs who saw the largest drops were Xerox’s Ursula Burns (to 28 percent from 65 percent), Cisco Systems’ John Chambers (to 57 percent from 85 percent), Netflix’s Reed Hastings (to 61 percent from 79 percent), and AOL’s Tim Armstrong (to 55 percent from 71 percent).
