Last November, Facebook announced an integrated inbox for businesses, allowing them to see their notifications from their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts in a single location. Now the social network appears to be testing the same concept for non-business users.
Social media analyst Mari Smith shared the screenshot pictured above and below from earlier this week in a Facebook post, noting that an icon for Instagram Direct appeared to the left, alongside the icons for Facebook Stories.
She also shared the screenshot below, in which the aggregate notifications for Facebook, Messenger and Instagram were moved to the top-left-hand corner of the application, and an icon for Camera took the place of the Instagram Direct icon, adjacent to the Facebook Stories icons.
Facebook had not yet responded to a request for comment at the time of this post, but a Facebook spokesperson told Josh Constine of TechCrunch:
We are conducting a very small test to make it easier for people to discover and connect with the people and things they care about. We’re exploring ways to help people switch more easily between their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts.
