If You Make It ‘Facebook Official’ Around Valentine’s Day, Messenger Perks Up

Here’s a nod to corporate synergy, Valentine’s Day-style: When a Facebook user changes his or her relationship status to indicate that they are now in a romantic relationship—making it “Facebook official”—he or she will receive a notification in Messenger that will open their conversation with their significant other.

At that point:

  • A shower of hearts will cascade across the screen.
  • The custom emoji in the lower-right-hand corner will change to the smile with heart eyes.
  • A prompt will appear enabling that user to personalize their chat by choosing custom text colors, emojis and nicknames.
  • The user’s loved one will be the first to appear atop the Active tab in Messenger, providing easy access to the chat thread.

Facebook also added Valentine’s Day filters and effects (pictured at the top of this post) to Messenger Camera, and all of those filters and effects are available in video chats on the messaging application.

Finally, the social network shared the most popular emojis on Messenger globally and broken out by men and women.
