The Final Public Editor at The New York Times Is Consulting Facebook

Liz Spayd will help Facebook provide more transparency

Liz Spayd, who turned out to be the last public editor at The New York Times, is now consulting Facebook.

A Facebook spokesperson told Kara Swisher and Kurt Wagner of Recode that Spayd will help Facebook provide more transparency on its efforts to combat terrorist content and fake news, as well as to protect users’ privacy.

According to Swisher and Wagner, Spayd is working out of both Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., and its New York offices.

The Facebook spokesperson told Swisher and Wagner Spayd would not write much for the social network’s blog, describing her role as “an outsider who is inside.”
