Facebook in Africa: 100M MAUs, and Counting

Facebook announced that it reached the 100 million monthly-active-user mark in Africa in June, adding that more than 80 percent of those users are accessing the social network via mobile devices.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly stressed his focus on connecting the rest of the world to the Internet — particularly developing areas, such as Africa — via the Internet.org initiative he launched in August 2013, along with Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung.

The social network said in a post on the Facebook for Business page:

As in all corners of the globe, people in African countries use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world and to share and express what matters to them.
