Facebook Hit With Porn Spam Attack

Network investigating graphic videos and images

Facebook says a “coordinated spam attack” caused a series of pornographic and violent images to be posted to users’ accounts.

The images, posted on Monday, include explicit pictures of self-mutilation, violence, and bestiality. They also feature sexual images and doctored pictures of celebrities, such as Justin Bieber and Rihanna.

The Washington Post calls the incident “one of the worst security breaches” in Facebook’s history. It adds that the attacks raise concerns about the site’s vulnerability to hackers.

The Post reports that Facebook users were tricked into copying and pasting malicious code into their browser bars.
