Facebook Explains Two-and-a-Half-Hour Outage

This must be the week of the mea culpa for social networks. Just two days after Twitter was victimized by an “onMouseOver” security exploit that subjected users who hovered over links to links to suspect Web sites and spam messages, it was Facebook’s turn Thursday to explain a two-and-a-half-hour outage.

Director of software engineering Robert Johnson detailed the social-networking site’s issues on the Facebook Engineering Blog:
