Facebook emphatically denied allegations in a story in The Guardian asserting that the social network and other Internet companies “were fully aware” of the National Security Agency’s data collection as part of its Prism initiative.
Facebook issued the following statement to TechCrunch:
Before it was reported in the news, we had never heard of Prism or any program in which Internet companies, voluntarily or otherwise, gave the government direct access to servers or in any way facilitated the bulk collection of user data.
