Now There’s a Dedicated App for Viewing Facebook 360 Content via the Gear VR

More than 25 million 360 photos and more than 1 million 360 videos have been posted to Facebook

Facebook Wednesday announced the release of Facebook 360, a dedicated application that enables Gear VR users to view 360-degree photos and videos from the social network.

The app will provide access to 360 photos and 360 video from friends, pages, followed users and pages, users’ Saved lists and other content they may not have seen.

Product director Brent Ayrey and software engineer Christopher Wong said in a Newsroom post announcing the app’s launch that more than 25 million 360 photos and more than 1 million 360 videos have been posted to the social network, adding that Facebook 360 will launch with four feeds:

  • Explore: Discover some of the most interesting and popular 360 content on Facebook from media companies, organizations and individual creators.
  • Following: Experience 360 content that your friends have posted on Facebook, as well as 360 content from pages and people you follow.
  • Saved: Find all the 360 content you’ve saved from News Feed ready for you to enjoy at a more convenient time.
  • Timeline: Relive your memories in a new way through your own 360 photo and video uploads.

Users can share Reactions to 360 photos and videos within the app and post that content to Facebook, and Ayrey and Wong said more social featured will be added “soon.”

Facebook 360 can be downloaded by opening the Oculus app on Gear VR-compatible Samsung devices and searching for Facebook 360, or via the Oculus site.
