Ex-Newsweek Editor To Become NBC News' No. 2

Mark Whitaker, the former Newsweek editor and head of the Washington Post‘s interactive division, is leaving WaPo for NBC News to become president Steve Capus‘ number two.

That the move was announced hours before the National Magazine Awards, something Whitaker was intimately involved with as the former ASME chair, should make interesting cocktail convo.

The memo from the WaPo newsroom:

It is with mixed emotions we announce that Mark Whitaker will be leaving WPNI to join NBC as Senior Vice President, the number two position under Steve Capus overseeing day-to-day national and international coverage and special projects for all their platforms (network, cable, web, etc).
