Etsy, the DIY shopping site for crafty and vintage-minded small businesses, has launched an iPad app. The new iPad app brings the big design-oriented photos of Etsy to the tablet world, creating an enriched mobile shopping experience. The app includes rich photography, access to the Etsy blog, gift guides, as well as watch how-to videos and mini-documentaries. Users can shop for and favorite products using the app.
The launch comes a year after the company first got into the app business. Last November, Etsy released its iPhone app. According to TechCrunch, the app passed a million downloads in four months. According to WebProNews, the Etsy iPhone app has been downloaded 2.5 million times since then.
Laura Hood, product marketing manager at Etsy, told WebProNews, “Early on at Etsy, we saw our number of visitors from mobile devices growing, so we began optimizing our pages to make them faster, easier, and prettier from any phone. Our community was into it, as evidenced by one member in particular: ‘Awesome Awesomeness.'”
