The Undefeated, the so-called “Black Grantland” from ESPN, is finally going to launch tomorrow. The New York Times reports the site will have four main verticals: sports, culture, college and The Uplift (basically stories about good things).
When asked to describe the tone of The Undefeated, editor Kevin Merida went for it. He said the site will be “unapologetic and brave,” and that he’d be “fearless but not reckless.” “We want to be smart and cool,” continued Merida. “We want to be a thought leader.”
The launch date for The Undefeated also carries significant weight — May 17 is the 62nd anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling.
