Ernie Anastos Returns with Another Edition of <i>Positively Ernie</i>

"I come on the news every night and say 'good evening,' and then I proceed to tell people why it's not." And thus, legendary anchorman Ernie Anastos needed an outlet to tell heartwarming, uplifting stories-Positively Ernie was born. Anastos is pleased that his bosses have embraced the show idea. "Fox 5 committed to giving me the opportunity to do a number of specials throughout the year," Anastos says. "I've chosen really to focus on this type of program, so they've been cooperative and generous." The WNYW/Channel 5 anchor brought his trademark smile to the first installment in May. "The reason that I want to do this is because I feel it's important to keep this kind of balance and positive kind of information out there," Anastos tells FishbowlNY. "The last special that I did, I really received a lot of responses." Support for the show led Anastos to go back to the drawing board. "There's so much material," Anastos says. "There are so many stories that I can pick and choose from, and hopefully some day I'll be able to get to many of those." This 30-minute episode, airing tonight at 10:30, features Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of his own show each afternoon on Channel 5. Oz will talk about a recent interview he conducted with actress Goldie Hawn, which focused on her secrets for a healthier life. Oz, a regular contributor to Positively Ernie, also talks about his summit on happiness at Radio City Music Hall this weekend. "All of us can find whatever it is that makes us happy by taking the time," Anastos says. "We all live in this busy world where we don't spend enough time just sitting for a moment." WHTZ/Z100 morning man Elvis Duran talks about how music makes an impact on people's lives. "The reason people tune into me is not necessarily to hear me chatter, but it's the music," Duran told Anastos. "Overall, I think it's a very interesting half-hour," Anastos says. "Even though it's quick paced, it still has good content." Additional content comes from the former Today Show co-host Jane Pauley. She stops by to discuss Children's Health Fund doctors, who provide medical care for those unable to afford it. "If we're dominated by a lot of negative and bad news," Anastos says. "But it's created some social problems and I think that having a positive influence by putting programs on the air that can help, particularly our young people, to have a sense that good behavior is rewarded...I like that."
