Eric Krangel, aka “Eric Reuters” from the Reuters bureau in Second Life is the guest speaker at the first New York city Social Media Breakfast co-hosted by Text100 and Converseon. Here are a few paraphrased quotes from Eric’s talk:

“The thing that’s limiting growth is not the interest in it, it’s the technology.”

“The best way for marketers to approach Second Life is to do it embrace it on its own terms.”

“There are so many possibilities. If Scholastic did a virtual Hogwarts for example, it would be a home run.”

“Virtual worlds are here to stay. It might be Linden Labs, it might not. There are others doing well, and there are persistent rumors that Google will start one.”

“Avatars do pitch me, and I do go to press conferences. I hold office hours as well (Tuesday 11 AM to Noon Eastern), that’s how I got invited to this breakfast. Aaron Uhrmacher showed up and talked to me about it.”

David Bradfield from Fleishman-Hillard, “What’s your favorite in-world experience?”

Eric: “A Dutch artist did a thing where you lie on your back and view thousands and thousands of wind chimes in the sky.” “I usually don’t have as much time for the fun things as I’d like.”
