Ennis Leaves Politico

Don Ennis, who was hired by Politico to “to be executive producer Allbritton’s Politico TV” (according to FTVLive), is no longer with the publication. He recently sent the following note, obtained by FishbowlDC, to staffers before leaving:

This will come as a surprise to some: I am leaving Washington for a new opportunity in a city my family still considers “home:” Jacksonville, Florida.

Shortly after we decided not to move forward with our plans for POLITICO TV, I was offered a position here at ABC7. And as I considered that offer, I returned to ABC News here in DC, and enjoyed a month’s work as a freelance producer for “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” But then, an old friend who was the new news director at First Coast News called, and asked me to be his #2. It’s a great opportunity combining so much of my previous experience; it’s also an ABC/NBC duopoly that ironically was created when Allbritton sold the ABC affiliate to Gannett. And, best of all, we love it there.

Some of you know I had been Executive Producer at Jacksonville’s Post Newsweek station, WJXT, until four years ago; I return to Jax having accomplished more than I ever dreamed, and despite the fact POLITICO TV is on “hiatus” — I leave here with no regrets. Those of you who helped me know how hard we tried, and how much fun we had. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with all of you.

I hope that if the day comes that you need ANYTHING, you won’t hesitate to call. You won’t be able to reach me much longer at WJLA, so my private cell # and personal email are below.
