Enemies List: Jack Shafer vs. Judy Miller

judy.jpgBelated: Judith Miller is one of those Teflon media people upon whom takedown pieces, however well done, seem to have no effect. (See Bart, Peter; Weinstein, Harvey…) But bless Jack Shafer for trying. [Ed.—We share the obsession. One of us wore a costume for Halloween that consisted of a Times press pass, dirty blond bob wig, a can of Raid (or “precursor elements” for our purposes), handcuffs and a heart-shaped photo of Ahmed Chalabi. Sadly, it wasn’t Christian.] Shafer’s most recent missive, after Miller claims on “Hardball” that Ahmed Chalabi played a major role in coalition building:

amazing if true, and if true worthy of inclusion in the Times. But Miller’s claim did not make today’s (Jan. 31) New York Times’ news pages. An op-ed describes Chalabi as “now disowned by the Americans who sponsored him.”

Why isn’t it in the Times? Miller tells Matthews that she hasn’t talked to her newspaper and is “on vacation in Florida.”
