This week’s top grossing charts were once again lead by OMGPOP on the iPhone, a testament to the enormous popularity of the $1.99 paid version of Draw Something. At last count, the game had been downloaded more than 30 million times .
Aside from Draw Something, the most interesting development on the iPhone charts this week was the rise of Tap4Fun’s older game, Galaxy Empire, which has risen from almost total obscurity to take the No. 14 position on our top grossing apps list. A mobile MMO with a sci-fi theme, the game hasn’t been updated since Jan. 31. The game is free-to-play and monetizes through in-app purchases. We’ll be keeping an eye on Galaxy Empire to see if it’s able to maintain its sudden popularity.
On the iPad charts, Draw Something appears to be losing steam, coming in at the No. 6 position and losing the lead to News Corps’ The Daily, which takes the No. 1 spot this week. Namco Bandai’s Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy makes a strong debut after its Mar. 15 release, taking the No. 9 spot.
