This week’s biggest gainer on our paid app charts is Dapper Gentleman’s Ugly Meter, a simple $0.99 joke app that weighs in on the relative attractiveness of user’s photos. The app takes the No. 1 spot on the iPhone paid app charts and rises 37 places to take the No. 3 spot on the paid iPad app charts this week. Angry Birds Space retains its hold on the No. 1 spot on the paid iPad app charts.
Ugly Meter enjoys the distinction of being featured on several TV programs on Fox, NBC and CNN. According to the app’s iTunes description, it now has more than 5 million users.
This week’s biggest debut goes to Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom 2. An adaptation of the classic console fighting game, the title takes the No. 10 spot on both the iPad and iPhone charts this week. The app was released on April 25 and is discounted to $2.99 from its regular price of $4.99 in anticipation of the highly anticipated Marvel Comics movie The Avengers. The movie is set to hit North American theaters this Friday, and while it is not an official promotional game, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 features many characters from the movie. It will be interesting to see how this will affect the app’s chart position in the long term.
Lower down the charts, Epic Games’ original Infinity Blade hits No. 18 on the paid iPhone charts and No. 11 on the iPad charts thanks to a new sale that has dropped the price of the game to $0.99 again.
