A small shakeup in our free app charts this week. While the now Zynga-owned hit Draw Something takes No. 1 on the iPhone charts for the fourth week in a row, it has been dethroned on the iPad charts by Paper by FiftyThree, a slick new productivity app that’s been drawing rave reviews.
Last week’s No. 2 iPhone and iPad app, Hunger Games: Girl on Fire slips to No. 16 and No. 22, respectively as interest from the blockbuster movie begins to decline.
On the iPad, the fastest gaining app is HBO GO, moving up 37 spots to the No. 19 position. The app allows users with an HBO subscription can use the app to watch streaming HBO content on an iPhone or iPad. Updated on Mar. 22, the older app’s suddenly popularity is likely due to the hotly anticipated premiere of the new season of Game of Thrones.
With smartphone usage now firmly ensconced in mainstream culture, its interesting to see “traditional media” entertainment properties from companies like HBO and Lions Gate beginning to affect the App Store rankings.
