For those of you who don’t know, Kontagent is a social analytics tool that lets social application and game developers measure and analyze behavioral data about their users. The platform provides all the necessary components to track the necessary metrics spanning engagement, retention and even monetization.
Back in January of 2009 Kontagent was tracking roughly 2 MMAUs. Since the platform was in its infancy, most bigger developers (and there were a few of them) were building in house analytical tools for their ventures. As the number of developers increased, Kontagent’s value proposition to offer a platform that saves time and resources became increasingly alluring.
“We chose Kontagent after evaluating a number of different options because of their enterprise-grade analytics platform that was built for social application developers.” said Joe Morris, VP of Mobile and Online at Konami Digital Entertainment. “Frankly, we checked around quite a bit and Kontagent was coming up everywhere as the world class leader in enterprise-grade social analytics.”
The stats of the company seem to be on the uprise as the company’s active user base has grown from 2M users in Jan 2009 to 30M in Jan 2010 and now to 100M. This is roughly as many users as 3 of the 4 top game developers combined. So what insight does this really give Kontagent? Why would you care?
If the platform is offering unique insights on acquiring, retaining and monetizing users, then surely the insight that Kontagent provides should provide something beyond what tools like Omniture or Google Analytics do. And its true – Kontagent has managed to evolve alongside the industry and is also one of the more informative companies out there releasing timely presentations that educate developers on which metrics to track.
If you’re a developer looking for enterprise-grade analytics that can scale on demand without having to spend a fortune, then Kontagent might be a good fit for you. Another competitor to look at is mixpanel.com. Both offer their own advantages and disadvantages that we covered in the past here on socialtimes. We’ve also looked at Kontagent in the past when they announced a round of funding.
