eBook Downloads From Libraries Hit Records On Christmas Day

It seems that people who got eReaders and tablets for Christmas this year are pretty savvy when it comes to checking out eBooks from libraries.

OverDrive reported yesterday that media content downloads from libraries using its app hit a record on Christmas Day. This includes borrowed eBooks, audiobooks, music and videos. According to OverDrive, most of these check outs came from patrons using iPads, Kindle Fires and Android devices.

Here is more from the OverDrive blog: “Among the libraries setting all-time eBook circulation records yesterday were Cuyahoga County Public Library (Ohio), Pioneer Library System (Okla.), Hennepin County Library (Minn.), and Mid-Continent Public Library (Mo.).” OverDrive CEO Steve Potash explained the numbers. He stated: “Mobile users account for as much as two-thirds of all traffic at Next Generation pilot libraries, and they’re generating record traffic.”
