DogTime Media, ASPCA Hope It Will Be Raining Adoptions of Cats and Dogs

The Internet is going to the dogs — and don’t forget the cats, as well. DogTime Media, an online vertical community for pet owners, teamed up with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to bring a database of more than 70,000 adoptable dogs and cats currently in shelters across the country to the ASPCA Web site.

The two organizations are using the same database that powers DogTime Media’s Save a Dog and Save a Cat Facebook applications.

In the Facebook apps, users can browse and virtually “foster” real animals in their neighborhood or anywhere in the country, with points awarded for “petting” and “walking” fosters, and for inviting other Facebook users to co-foster animals or participate in “play dates.”

Qualifying shelters and rescue organizations can add their pets to the ASPCA site, along with all of the major pet-adoption sites, free-of-charge.

ASPCA vice president of member communications Betsey Fortlouis said:

Millions of animal lovers already visit the ASPCA Web site regularly to stay updated on the vital work we do to fight animal cruelty and homelessness. Now we can bring even more attention to the plight of homeless dogs and cats across the country by leveraging the power of social media to help drive adoptions.
