Digital First Media Editor Dave Butler to Retire

"Now seems like an appropriate time to turn over leadership to the next generation."

Dave Butler, editor in chief of newspaper chain Digital First Media (DFM), is retiring. Butler first joined MediaNews Group—which eventually merged into DFM—in 1977.

“The company will be undergoing tremendous change as it continues to evolve into a more digitally focused organization, so now seems like an appropriate time to turn over leadership to the next generation,” Butler said, in a statement to the Mercury News. “I have been blessed with a tremendous team of outstanding journalists both in the Bay Area and around the DFM circuit. I know their dedication to producing quality journalism will continue long after I am gone.”

DFM publishes a variety of local newspapers across the country. States served include Vermont, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and more.
