This week, Details magazine introduced “Details Guild,” an initiative that aims to draw attention to and support artists throughout New York City working in different mediums, including graffiti artist Blek Le Rat, whose work for the Guild was showcased in The New York Times. The featured artists will create works on a wall on West 13th Street between Washington Street and 10th Avenue in the Meatpacking District.
Le Rat vaguely explains the importance of this initiative:
Street art is very important. Considering the countless number of artists and pieces being created all over the world, it’s clear something is happening. We don’t fully understand what it is, but it is definitely happening.
Other artists who have already signed up to be a part of this project include Nate Lowman, Slater Bradley and Gardar Eide Einarsson. Those who wish to sign up to become members of the Details Guild will have the opportunity to purchase limited edition pieces by the participating artists. Proceeds will benefit “Street Studio,” a new art mentoring program for teens developed by Free Arts NYC.
