Departures is getting into the shelter game with a new supplement, titled “Home & Design.” According to WWD, the mini-mag will be bagged with next May’s issue and sent to AmEx platinum and centurion card members.
Departures’ Home & Design is just the latest entry into the crowded luxury shelter publication market. There are plenty of them because high-end advertisers bring big bucks to spend on ad space.
If you want proof that Home & Design is going to succeed, here is what AmEx’s senior vice president and publishing director, Steven DeLuca, told WWD about the title:
There are shelter magazines, but no shelter magazines serving readers at our level. Two-thirds of our readers have two homes. A third of our readers have three homes or more.
Well, well, well! Aren’t they fancy? Their readers might have three houses, but we have an apartment so small you can cook your dinner in the kitchen while sitting on the couch in the living room. Top that.
