Davis Named WaPo's Deputy Political Editor

WaPo announced today Marcia Davis will be the paper's new deputy political editor, working under political editor Tim Curran. From the memo: "Marcia is one of the newspaper's most imaginative and passionate editors, and will add fresh ideas and a vibrant spirit to our coverage of national politics." MARCIA DAVIS TO EDIT NATIONAL POLITICAL COVERAGE We are pleased to announce that District Politics and Government Editor Marcia Davis will move across the room as National's new Deputy Political Editor. Marcia is one of the newspaper's most imaginative and passionate editors, and will add fresh ideas and a vibrant spirit to our coverage of national politics. She will join Political Editor Tim Curran, who has impressively carried a heavy load by himself for way too long. During her time as the District's political editor, Marcia has helped guide the coverage of the D.C. tax scandal, the Supreme Court gun decision, several local elections and Metro's reporting from the Democratic National Convention. She also was instrumental in revitalizing the well-regarded D.C. Wire blog. Marcia first came to the Post in 1992 as a Metro copy editor. She was the copy editor for Leon Dash's 1995 Pulitzer Prize-winning series, "Rosa Lee's Story." Marcia left the Post for a time to become senior editor at Emerge magazine, and thankfully returned in 1999 as an assignment editor in Style. In 2006, she was co-editor of the award-winning multimedia project, "Being a Black Man." That same year she also edited Jose Antonio Vargasâ€™s powerful series on AIDS in the District, a series now being turned into a documentary. Marcia grew up in St. Louis, where her mother still owns Nicks Bar and Grill. Stop by if you happen to be in town.
