Daniel Hernandez Takes LAT to Task

Former LAT scribe Daniel Hernandez rails against the LAT coverage of Latino culture, issues and … well, everything, in this week’s LA Weekly.

His piece opens with former OC Register columnist Agustin Gurza listening to LAT cafeteria workers snicker over the paper incorrectly identifying an enormously popular Latina singer.

And then it goes on. And on. Delving into the Otis Chandler-era dismissal of anything brown. It’s a truly amazing bit of journalistic digging. But ultimately, does it uncover anything that those kids making sandwiches didn’t already know? The real test will be if stories like these lead to any changes.

Stick around here for reaction to his piece.
