Crowdfunded Sports Site ‘The Classical’ Meets Fundraising Goal

Chip clipThe Classical, which was when we last covered it a hypothetical new sports site that its founders were trying to get off the ground via Kickstarter, reached its fundraising goal yesterday with 10 days left to go in the campaign.

Sportswriters Tom Scharpling, Eric Nusbaum, David Roth, Lang Whitaker, Pete Beatty, Bethlehem Shoals, and more were asking for $50,000 in order to start the site and keep it running for a year. They reached that goal and currently stand at $51,149, with 979 backers. More than 650 of those backers pledged at a high enough level to get a The Classical-branded chip clip.

The Classical folks wrote this update after passing their fundraising goal:

This is really, really exciting. We couldn’t have gotten to our goal with out the 970-some backers who have helped us out. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. Our first order of business: manufacturing and distributing chip clips and other official Classical gear. Second: We owe our backers one (1) awesome sports website. Luckily for all of you, that’s where we’re Vikings.

We’ll be watching to see where this goes next.
