Just in case someone out there is preparing what they feel is a bulletproof argument against claims that the city of San Francisco is twee and provincial, I present to you: Cupid’s Span. Are they kidding? Holy smokes, this is some ugly shit. Sure warm and fuzzy has a place in the public realm (sometimes and for God’s sake sparingly) but give me some Tom Otterness, not this saccharine Disney-fied nonsense.
The information provided by the artists (Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen) on their website does little to redeem the, um, sculpture.
