CNN Worldwide Investing $10 Million Overseas

CNN Worldwide has announced plans to invest $10 million in overseas operations and to boost foreign staff by 10%.

The expansion project will include:

  • Greater cash/personnel investment in CNN’s United Arab Emirates bureau (which, not incidentally, is responsible for covering much of the Middle East).

  • New hires in Johannesburg and Mexico City

  • “Planned operations” in Afghanistan, Belgium, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland and Vietnam.

The move is planned as part of CNN’s strategy to enhance their newsgathering capabilities abroad; the new hires will partially replace the hole left when CNN severed ties with Reuters.
