Up to 28 positions are rumored to be eliminated today and tomorrow from CNN’s Washington bureau as part of layoffs by CNN’s parent company Turner.
Our sister site TVNewser reports:
“As many as 300, or 8%, of CNN’s workforce is being cut in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles. About 130 staffers have taken a voluntary buyout, other open positions are not being filled. The remainder, about 170 positions, are the result of layoffs which are happening today and tomorrow.”
A CNN spokesperson told TVNewser, “The changes this week are difficult yet necessary. Out of respect for our colleagues directly impacted, we won’t be commenting on specific people or programs.”
In August, Turner sent out an email to staff including those at CNN, offering a Voluntary Separation Program to employees 55 and over who have worked for Turner for 10+ years.
